Overview

Founded in 1993 by Jean Tran Thanh Van, the association Rencontres du Vietnam, a non-profit organization and an official partner of UNESCO, has as its objective the promotion of international exchanges between Vietnam and the international community, particularly in the areas of science and education. It also aims at the encouragement and integration of Vietnamese scientists into the international scientific community and at supporting the role of education and science by encouraging scientific awareness and stimulating passion for science in the younger generation. The Rencontres du Vietnam lies within the scope of two series of scientific meetings created by Jean Tran Thanh Van : the Rencontres de Moriond in 1966 and the Rencontres de Blois in 1989.

The creation of the International Centre for Interdisciplinary Science Education (ICISE) in the city of Quy Nhon (Central Vietnam) has the ambitious objective to focus on developing Science and Education by fostering exchanges between Asia-Pacific scientists and colleagues from other parts of the world.

ISYA Vietnam 2026: International School for Young Astronomers
28th September – 16th October 2026, ICISE Quy Nhon, Vietnam

The 48th International School for Young Astronomers, will take place in the International Centre for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE) in Quy Nhon, Vietnam, from 28 September to 16 October 2026. The International School for Young Astronomers (ISYA) is a long-tradition project of the International Astronomical Union (IAU), nowadays also co-sponsored by the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters (NASL) through the Office for Young Astronomers (OYA). The 48th ISYA is co-organized by the OYA, and the International Centre for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE).

The 48th ISYA aims to broaden the attending young students’ perspective on Astronomy from their exposure to an intensive three- week program of lectures with up-to-date astrophysics, both on theory and observations, led by an international team of experts. Students will learn about different astronomical fields, from the Stellar Physics to Cosmology, and acquire technical expertise to analyze current astronomical data and models.

The ISYA places a special emphasis on students located in areas that do not have the benefit of a local research institute that teaches most of the sub-disciplines of Astronomy. To promote young astronomers initiative and research, the Vietnam 48th ISYA will encourage the students to submit posters to present a summary of their research projects.
